Job Summary

Senior Buyer position is responsible for driving cost, quality, and delivery while placing purchase orders for assigned categories.

Responsibilities

  • Generate purchase orders to suppliers for assigned projects in a timely fashion and work with suppliers to confirm delivery dates to ensure on-time delivery to our customers.

  • Review demand and determine when purchase orders need expediting.

  • Negotiate pricing, lead time, quality targets, on-time delivery targets, and delivery terms with suppliers as necessary.

  • Perform key analytical activities for Supply Chain department.

  • Coordinate with Engineering and Project Management teams to ensure timely placement of purchase orders for required parts and mitigate or escalate any blocking points.

  • Support advanced procurement resources as necessary in driving competitive cost in commercial bids.

  • Assist with the implementation of a regional or global sourcing strategy that leverages synergies between plants.

  • Drive activities in support of deflation and cost savings. Identify and manage strategic sourcing projects.

  • Enter / maintain relevant data in the MRP/ERP system per documented purchasing procedures.

  • Monitor and provide clear communications to suppliers as to the business requirements and expectations for delivery, quality, customer support, and continuous improvement.

  • Work with expeditor and logistics on shipping arrangements and to ensure orders are closed within the target period.

  • Resolve 3-way match issues between purchase orders, receipts, and supplier invoices.

  • Maintain reports on cost savings, delivery performance, product/service quality, and/or inventories as required.

  • Maintain the highest ethical behaviour while following Roots Blowers procedures, policies, work instructions, and safety guidelines.

  • Regularly communicate material issues that may affect Customer due dates with Customer Service, Project Managers, Materials, and other team members.

  • Regularly attend team meetings to discuss project and order status and to identify and resolve issues that may impact the customer.

  • Serve as the 'relationship owner' for Roots Blowers suppliers and promote the Roots brand(s).

Basic Qualifications?

(Essential qualifications, language, driving licence etc)?

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with an ability to clearly present ideas, concepts and processes

  • Knowledge of MS Dynamics AX or SAP

  • This person will need to be influential and persuasive, especially in dealing with suppliers, to ensure that commitments are met and that our orders are prioritized appropriately.

  • Ability to process a high volume of complicated PO's daily (20+ with multiple PO lines)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Supply Chain or equivalent

  • 3-5 years of experience in buyer role

  • Ability to influence others

  • Ability to perform complex analytical studies

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Energetic and proactive in driving towards end results

  • Comfortable working in a high-volume, fast-paced work environment

  • Thrives under pressure with the ability to multi-task and priorities work

  • Effective teamwork skills

  • Enjoys difficult challenges, finding solutions not problems

  • Logical problem-solving skills

  • Strong organization skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities

  • Strong administrative and recordkeeping skills

  • Advanced competency in MS Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Teams

  • Experience working with Microsoft AX or SAP
