About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants needs a Business Requirements Analyst for its Technology team. The job is to analyze, describe, and document the business needs of project stakeholders, including customers or end users. This means talking to stakeholders and collecting and organizing user requirements to share with development teams during the software lifecycle. The Business Requirements Analyst (HR Job Title: Business Analyst) will also use effective communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help with the development process, and to make sure that project outputs meet the specifications. The Business Requirements Analyst will be key in making sure the technology team understands business requirements.

This is a full time, salaried position with the ability to work remotely, remote/office hybrid, or full time in an office. The preferred candidate with be in proximity to our Broomfield, Colorado office. Remote candidates with the proper experience will also be considered.

What you will accomplish

  • Collaborate with project managers and sponsors to determine project vision, scope, identify stakeholders, and user personas.
  • Facilitate requirements gathering sessions and workshops with stakeholders to ensure all perspectives are considered.
  • Develop user stories and acceptance criteria to guide development and testing.
  • Create process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to developers.
  • Research software and hardware products, analyze requirements, and translate conceptual user requirements into functional requirements.
  • Analyze and translate requirements and digital content into structured information architecture to improve system usability and data accessibility for enhanced decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the development team to ensure that requirements are understood and implemented
  • Conduct peer reviews, communicate changes, and participate in the quality assurance of developed solutions.
  • Validate that the delivered solution meets the business needs and requirements.
  • Continuously monitor and assess the effectiveness of the solution and recommend improvements.

Experience and qualifications for success

Required Qualifications:
  • College degree in business administration, computer science, finance, information systems, or human-computer interactions and over 5 years of related requirements-gathering experience, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proven experience with business and technical requirements analysis, elicitation, modeling, verification, and methodology development.
  • Experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software and hardware solutions, systems, or products.
  • Demonstrated ability to create systematic and consistent requirements specifications in both technical and user-friendly language.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Clear understanding of product management and market placement.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and project management software skills, including planning, organizing, and managing resources.
  • Understanding of application development and software development life cycle concepts.
  • Working technical knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS), with experience in mobile data collection software (Esri Survey123, Field Maps, Fulcrum, etc.)
  • Experience ensuring digital content and interfaces comply with WCAG guidelines to enhance accessibility and provide an inclusive user experience for individuals with disabilities.
  • Strong organizational skills related to scheduling time on projects and meeting deadlines while working within an organized file structure protocol.
  • Ability to manage complex tasks, and to work effectively with large project teams and solve problems that arise in an efficient and diplomatic manner.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Understanding of programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, SQL as well as database design.
  • BABOK certification is a plus (ECBA, CCBA, or equivalent)
  • Previous experience in the Environmental Consulting or AEC industry
  • A working understanding of agency internal processes and procedures and positive existing relationships with federal land management and regulatory agencies, such as the BLM, USFS, NPS, BOR, DOE, DOT, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and/or U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS).

An employee in this corporate based position can expect an annual salary of $73,840.00-$96,720.00/year. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
