Ramboll is accepting applications for the Summer 2024 internship program at our office located in Syracuse33. Each participant will be assigned a mentor who will guide them through project assignments. The program will provide internship participants with the opportunity to gain experience working in one or more practice areas. Our goal is to afford our interns experience with a variety of projects during the summer program to broaden their understanding an experience within their field of interest.

Tasks and Responsibilities

As an intern, you may have a range of daily tasks and responsibilities. While specific tasks can vary depending on the projects you are working on, here are some common tasks that you may have the opportunity to contribute:

  • Assisting with Structural Analysis: You may be involved in performing structural analysis using software programs such as RISA or STAAD.Pro. This could include inputting data, creating models, and analyzing results under the guidance of experienced engineers.
  • Drafting and CAD Work: You might be responsible for creating or modifying technical drawings using computer-aided design (CAD) software like AutoCAD or Revit. This could involve detailing structural components, creating plans, and preparing drawings for construction documents.
  • Conducting Research: Assist with research tasks, such as gathering information on materials, design codes, or construction techniques. You may be asked to summarize findings, prepare reports, or contribute to presentations.
  • Attending Meetings: You might have the opportunity to attend project meetings, both internal and external, where you can observe and learn from discussions about design considerations, project progress, and coordination with other disciplines.
  • Field Visits and Site Inspections: You may have the chance to accompany engineers to construction sites for inspections or site visits. This provides valuable exposure to real-world construction practices and allows you to observe the application of structural design principles.
  • Assisting with Calculations and Design: Depending on your level of expertise, you may assist engineers with calculations, design iterations, and preparing design documents. This could involve sizing structural members, verifying load paths, and checking for code compliance.
  • Documentation and Organization: You might be responsible for organizing project documents, maintaining filing systems, or updating project databases. This includes keeping track of drawings, specifications, and project correspondence.
  • Collaborating with Team Members: Interns often work closely with other team members, including engineers and designers. You may collaborate on specific project tasks, contribute to discussions, and provide assistance as needed.

  • Candidates should be working toward a B.S or M.S degree in Civil Engineering with an interest in pursuing a career in Structural Engineering
  • Candidates with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above are strongly preferred. Candidates with the completion of 4 college semesters (rising Junior status) are strongly preferred.
  • Coursework in:
    • Structural Steel Design
    • Reinforced Concrete Design
    • Building Codes
