Overview
This is a full time, benefit eligible, fiscal year (twelve month) appointment. The successful applicant for this position (Agricultural Assistant III) will work under the direction of the Ag Experiment Station Crops Supervisor to conduct general crop production practices, coordinate deliveries, transport feed products and manure, and maintain adequate records of transport and delivery of the products. Additionally, he/she will assist in the everyday duties and responsibilities of the farm. She/he will have to be able to work flexible hours to accommodate the busy harvest season and hauling of products.


Responsibilities
  • Communicate and provide adequate records for both feed and manure products effectively to proper personnel.
  • Experienced in operation of agricultural equipment including: agricultural tractors, hay and forage equipment, front end loaders, and assorted farm implements.
  • Operate equipment carefully and effectively to ensure proper storage and handling of agricultural commodities.
  • Work closely with Farm Manager to maintain equipment and responsible facilities.
  • Assist in farm responsibilities which could include, but are not restricted to soil preparation, planting, watering, spraying, and harvesting of commodities.
  • Obtain, or stay current, a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and appropriate licensing. Position may include operation of semi-truck with a variety of trailers (including hydraulic silage/manure, hopper grain, and flatbed trailers).


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Two years of crop production, or related agricultural/machinery experience.
  • Associates degree or equivalent in an agriculturally related discipline.
  • Valid Utah Drivers License and ability to obtain Class A CDL required within first 90 days of employment.
  • May require evening and weekend availability.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to receive and ship materials
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbal and written, with vendors, and university staff and faculty members.
  • Requires walking/standing approximately 65% of time; sitting approximately 20% of time; lifting up to 100 lbs. approximately 5% of time; stooping, forward bending and crouching approximately 10% of time.
  • Requires ability to operate and maintain agricultural equipment and trucks.
  • Requires ability to read written instructions, regulations, and other documentation and use appropriate sources to locate valid information related to position responsibilities.

The environment and physical requirements may change depending on the specific function of the work each department performs. Incumbents may be in both indoor and outdoor environments. Indoors, in an office space, event space, or public space are protected from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. Incumbents may nearly continuously sit and often use repetitive hand motion (such as typing).

Outdoors, incumbents may not be protected from weather conditions and may be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold. Additionally, indoor or outdoor work environments may include being confined or in narrow spaces for periods of time. The incumbent may also be exposed to loud noises or vibrations from equipment, and conditions that may affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation. Bending, crawling, and crouching may be required.
Incumbents may be required to lift, push, and/or pull objects up to 50 pounds and be required to walk and/or stand for long periods of time.
