Overview
The successful applicant for HVAC Technician Senior will serve as a coordinator for projects for critical buildings as assigned including performing complex maintenance, repair, and installation of critical building heating, ventilating, and research flow hoods and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and controls. Successful applicant should be able to trouble shoot all systems in assigned buildings and facilitate repair as needed. Accomplishes this by applying journeyman skills and positive attitude in conjunction with advanced technical knowledge, the ability to analyze and understand unique project requests complex air handling system as related to BSL3 labs or customer concerns, and established leadership skills.


Responsibilities
  • Prepares labor and material estimates for repair and renovation projects.
  • Assists in monitoring, ordering and maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Coordinates projects and schedules work to ensure timely completion and quality standards, as needed.
  • Performs customer service duties by checking with building managers and users following up with customers and ensuring that their needs are met.
  • Performs daily checks of critical buildings both on computer and visually.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and calibrates flow hoods.
  • Leads, guides, and trains other technicians in applicable procedures and techniques.
  • Coordinates and participates in various meetings and committees to enhance and develop the Facilities department and resources.
  • Troubleshoots, diagnosis, and repairs HVAC controls, systems, and equipment problems.
  • Performs inspections and preventative maintenance on HVAC systems, equipment, and controls as it pertains to BSL-3 labs, on a scheduled basis.
  • Checks all aspects of the HVAC control system and associated equipment to ensure that it is balanced and in correct and working order.
  • Participates in major HVAC component, equipment and controls installation and replacement, and the evaluation of complex BSL-3 system problems.
  • Evaluates automation operations on all control systems to ensure cost effectiveness with minimal down time.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Cleans equipment, shop area and work site.
  • Participates in administrative duties by overseeing various shop functions including: physical facilities, refrigerant records and procedures, and commissioning projects.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of testing procedures for shop personnel.
  • Ascertains and troubleshoots problems and directs the right department to fix problems and performs follow up to make sure problems are corrected.
  • Ability to work with contractor and departmental Techs.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 6 years directly related work experience in HVAC/refrigeration field.
  • Must have a Universal Refrigeration License, have effective computer skills, and be able to read blue prints and schematics.
  • Completion of on-going training to stay current with the trade.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of complex controls systems related to Johnson Controls, Inet, and Struxureware.
  • Knowledge of HVAC control systems, equipment and campus facilities.
  • Knowledge of the repair, maintenance, and installation techniques of common to the HVAC trade.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, Hydronics and Steam equipment and associated components.
  • Considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of HVAC equipment.
  • Skill in the installation, adjustment and repair of HVAC control systems.
  • Skill in troubleshooting and repairing all types of HVAC systems, equipment and elements.
  • Ability to analyze building heating and air conditioning requirements and recommend systems or modifications.
  • Skill in the use of test equipment common to the trade.
  • Knowledge of other crafts and when to use them.
  • Mathematical computation skills.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and applicable software.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Ability to accurately estimate projects and purchase materials.
  • Ability to read building blueprints and electrical and controls schematics.
