Overview
USU Eastern Upward Bound, a federally funded initiative, is dedicated to empowering high school students from low-income families and those aiming to become the first in their families to attend college. Our six-week summer program offers approximately 30 Upward Bound students a holistic educational experience, blending rigorous academics with cultural and social enrichment, all within the vibrant community of USU Eastern.

Program Overview: Running from June to July, our program is designed to provide intensive academic support and personal development opportunities. Classes are held Monday through Thursday, with morning sessions starting at 8:30 a.m. and concluding at 5:00 p.m., incorporating breaks for lunch and study hall.

We're Seeking Qualified Teachers in the Following Subjects:
  • Mathematics
  • Language Arts
  • Science
  • Foreign Language
  • Physical Education
  • Other Extracurricular Activities (e.g., theatre, art, graphic arts, culinary arts)

Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
  • Develop Engaging Curriculum:
    • Craft dynamic, hands-on lesson plans tailored to the diverse learning needs of up to 30 students in grades 9-12. Classes run four days a week (Monday to Thursday) from June 3, 2024, to July 3, 2024.
  • Effective Grading Practices:
    • Dedicate time outside of regular teaching hours to assess student work promptly and provide constructive feedback to support their academic growth.
  • Inspire Student Engagement:
    • Cultivate a stimulating learning environment that sparks students' curiosity and enthusiasm for the subject matter. Employ innovative teaching methods to actively engage students in the learning process.
  • College Preparation Support:
    • Guide and mentor students on the path to higher education, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate collegiate opportunities and make informed decisions about their future academic pursuits.
  • Foster a Love of Learning:
    • Serve as a mentor and role model, fostering a culture of intellectual curiosity and lifelong learning among high school students. Encourage a growth mindset and instill confidence in students' abilities to succeed academically and beyond.
  • Support the Mission of USU Eastern Upward Bound:
    • Align instructional practices and program initiatives with the overarching goals of USU Eastern Upward Bound, which is committed to promoting postsecondary readiness among high school students from low-income and first-generation college backgrounds.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Flexibly respond to any additional duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success and effectiveness of the Upward Bound program.

Program Highlights: USU Eastern Upward Bound is a federally funded grant program dedicated to fostering postsecondary preparation among high school students. We proudly serve 60 students from Grand, Emery, and Carbon counties throughout the school year and an additional 30 students from the same counties during our enriching summer program.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
  • Ability to work with and relate to high school age students.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions or work assignments.
  • Job offer is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check

  • Previous mentoring or advisory experience.
