Chaplains encourage and support interdisciplinary teamwork between chaplains and caregivers. Chaplains respond to direct requests by offering consultations, attending rounds, and participating in interdisciplinary conferences. As well, Chaplains provide clinical documentation of interactions with patients.


Chaplains educate and support patients, families, and staff particularly regarding emotional, spiritual, and religious issues. They coordinate with members of the faith community at a patient or caregivers request. As well, the Chaplain establishes and nurtures relationships with the various local religious communities to ensure each persons specific religious and spiritual needs are respected, met, and addressed.

Position Details

Our PRN Chaplains work as needed. They provide spiritual support for our patients, families, and staff. Chaplains play a very critical role in helping patients and families make end of life decisions.

We also administer various sacraments and partner with local clergy to provide spiritual support for the diverse population we serve.

We leverage resources with the medical staff to assess the spiritual and emotional state of the patient and family.

Various tools are used to support patients throughout their hospital stay. The chaplain in this role is required to respond to phone calls, pages, and requests for support within 30 minutes.

Clinical for Pastoral Education (CPE) training is required. Candidates with theological training and experience working in hospital settings are preferred.

PRN Chaplains work all over the hospital and spend specific time rounding in the critical care units.

Candidates must have 1 unit of CPE training.

Utilizing effective communication skills with all patients, volunteers, and staff in a timely, concise, clear, and positive manner, the chaplain works within the healthcare setting providing pastoral care (i.e. emotional, spiritual and religious care) for patients, families, and staff. Chaplains focus on the ministry of the injured, sick, dying, and grieving in the clinical ? hospice, hospital, clinic setting. By offering spiritual care to patients and their families and staff through a variety of means including active listening, supportive dialogue, and prayer and meditation patient and caregiver satisfaction improves.

Minimum Qualifications

Two units of Clinical Pastoral Education,
- or -
currently enrolled in a CPE program.

For Homecare Employees: Current drivers license, insured and reliable transportation, and an acceptable driving record.

One year of experience providing spiritual care.

Demonstrated familiarity with and respect for spiritual, religious and cultural diversity.
- and -
Demonstrated excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- and -
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally, in writing, and through the use of technology.
- and -
For Homecare/Hospice Employees: Current driver's license, insured and reliable transportation and an acceptable driving record. And, access to connect to the Internet for transferring data twice a day or able to commute to the office twice on scheduled days to transfer data.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally, in writing, and through the use of technology.

For Homecare Employees: Access to connect to the Internet for transferring data twice a day or able to commute to the office twice a day to transfer data.
- and -
One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education or currently enrolled in a CPE program.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's level education obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.

Four units of Clinical Pastoral education

Certification eligible.
- or -
Certified by and in good standing with a nationally recognized program,
- and -
Specialized Certification as requested.

Two years of experience as a chaplain in a clinical setting.

Experience working with Palliative Care/Hospice patients.
