Overview
The Duchesne County office of Utah State University Extension seeks a qualified individual to assist in coordinating countywide, youth programs consistent with the county 4-H team. General duties include recruiting youth and volunteers to actively participate in 4-H, providing educational experiences, and representing the principles of positive youth development through 4-H programs. This position will also have duties related to assisting with 4-H Horse Shows, Livestock Show, and County Fair. Occasional travel may be required for trainings and/or statewide 4-H events.

This position will work cohesively with the full-time coordinator to deliver programming and assistance in multiple 4-H related topics. This particularly includes the areas of Teen Leadership and Community Engagement.

  • This position will average 24 hours per week without benefits.
  • Hours will vary during busy times such as County Fair.
  • Occasional nights and weekends will be required for special events.
  • Job offer is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.


Responsibilities
This position will report to Duchesne County Extension faculty.
  • Advance the 4-H program in the county by recruiting and training youth and volunteers to organize and join 4-H Clubs.
  • Provide support and guidance to existing and new volunteers and 4-H clubs.
  • Promote Regional and State 4-H programs. This may include marketing, registering, and supporting volunteers in facilitating opportunities.
  • Support a variety of Extension outreach activities that may include school enrichment activities such as Farm Field Day, Career Days etc., educator trainings, camps and teen leadership programs, day camps etc.
  • Respond to requests, office visits, telephone calls, emails, and other correspondence promptly and professionally.
  • Be an active member of the USU Youth Programs Team, which includes participating in meetings, serving on working groups, and assisting at regional and state events.
  • Support the Civil Rights mandate of Utah State University Extension and implement innovative approaches to reach diverse audiences.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Some college or related experience.
  • Must have effective communication and interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills, and basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Internet, Zoom, etc.)
  • Desire to work with youth and potential volunteers.
  • Access to reliable transportation.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with 4-H or other youth serving organizations.
  • Experience with recruiting, supervising, and working with volunteers.
  • Knowledge of the Land Grant University system.
  • Prior experience with community programming.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to teach, manage and engage an audience (youth and adult).
  • Strong computer and technology skills - Microsoft Office and Google Docs.
  • Ability to market USU Extension youth program events and opportunities.
  • Ability to effectively utilize social media to raise awareness of opportunities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to pleasantly interact with a wide variety of individuals.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.
  • Ability to travel throughout area of responsibility, occasional statewide, consistent with university policy.
  • Strong organizational, time, and project management skills.

Indoors, in an office space, event space, or public space are protected from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. Outdoors, incumbents may not be protected from weather conditions and may be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold. Additionally, indoor or outdoor work environments may include being confined or in narrow spaces for periods of time. The incumbent may also be exposed to loud noises or vibrations from equipment, and conditions that may affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation. Bending, crawling, and crouching may be required. Incumbents may be required to lift, push, and/or pull objects up to 50 pounds and be required to walk and/or stand for long periods of time.
