Job Description

Job Summary:

This position is accountable for all aspects of material handling, shipping, receiving, stocking, and yard maintenance. Ensures timely delivery of materials to their respective fabrication, machining, or assembly areas. Ensures loading and unloading of material in a timely manner. Ensures proper inspection of received material and put into stock in proper location. Operate various types and size lift trucks (1/2-ton, 3/4-ton, 1 ton, and 2-ton trucks), and overhead cranes. Hand tools such as hammers, tape measures, nail guns, screw guns, and many other air operated tools.


Essential Functions:

  • Comply with all material handling as follows:
    • Delivery of materials from stock or remnant to respective areas.
    • Delivery of fabricated, machined, blasted, and painted parts to respective areas.
    • Loading and unloading of parts and material for customers and vendors.
    • Receive, inventory, and inspect all incoming material and stock in proper location.
  • Ensure timely delivery of material to their respective fabrication or assembly areas
  • Yard maintenance and care:
    • Must be self motivated in the care of and proper placement of all new and remnant material.
    • Maintain scrap bins for material disposal.
    • Maintain racks and zones for material storage.
    • Maintain I.D. for storage and future use.
    • Maintain proper documentation of inventory.
  • Responsible for inspections and care of equipment
  • Maintain safe environment.
  • Manage all stock including the following:
    • Maintain inventory record accuracy
    • Effectively organize material in their proper locations.
    • Prepare, package, and protect any internal and outgoing product with coordination and approval of all proper personnel

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with team members, vendors, and customers.
  • Must be a strong advocate of the company vision and mission statements.
  • Must be able to communicate well with others and write clearly.
  • Ability to operate and maneuver a variety of equipment in tight positions (large and small forklifts, man-lifts, pallet jack, overhead cranes.)
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 51 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions in and outside the shop.
  • Must be able to work effectively without supervision.
  • Must be willing to work overtime when necessary.
  • Must be able to use computer programs to retrieve information and verify received items.
  • Willing to train new hires on all aspects of material handling.
  • Possesses interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to maintain trust, unity, and partnering with management, team members, and customers.
  • Excellent team player skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of material grades and types.
  • Knowledge of shipping procedures and how freight industry works.
  • Knowledge of inventory control.
  • Good understanding of computers and inventory programs.


Minimum Requirements:

One-year experience in material handling. Must hold current operator's certification on powered industrial trucks. Must hold current drivers license and medical card.


Essential Mental Functions:

Must be able to understand implicit and explicit instructions and react favorable in all work situations. Must be able resolve problems, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure.


Essential Physical Functions:

Requires lifting of at least 50lbs, stooping, bending and stretching to accomplish assigned duties. Requires sitting (forklift) for long periods of time and may require standing, bending and stooping for extended periods of time. Building crates, pallets and all packaging required to protect all items purchased and produced by the company.


Safety Requirements:

  • Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others
  • Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the employer's safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.

Equipment Used (but not limited to):

Forklift (All sizes), Company trucks (Those that do not require a CDL), Truck tie downs, and shop overhead cranes, Man-lifts. Hand tools such as hammers, tape measures, nail guns, and many other air operated tools.


Availability:

  • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer's sole discretion.
  • Must be available and willing to work overtime as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.

Travel:

Must be available and willing to travel as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.


Working Conditions:

Works inside and mostly outside a typical fabrication shop surrounding. Occasionally called upon to work overtime. Working conditions may vary according to weather. Requires ability to work in heat and cold.
