Overview
The Department of Technology, Design, and Technical Education (TDTE) at Utah State University is seeking candidates for a Business Consultant SR. The Business Resource Consultant will manage all aspects of the Moab Business Resource Center. This position, based at the USU Moab campus, is a part-time (75%) position, eligible for benefits, with the opportunity for an additional 25% workload dependent upon interest and qualifications of the successful applicant and need by the department. The successful candidate works with and reports to the TDTE Associate Department Head located on the USU Blanding campus. This position is dependent on continued funding from external sources.

The Business Consultant will deliver professional, high quality, individualized business consulting and technical assistance to existing small businesses and pre-venture entrepreneurs. This position will require working with internal and external entities to determine training needs and resources in the Grand County service area. It will offer problem solving assistance to help small businesses with all business management, operational, and growth aspects. This individual may supervise interns or part time/full time employees if necessary. If qualified and if there is demand by the department, this individual may teach business classes for an additional 25% time. These classes may be credit or non-credit classes depending on the needs. Teaching assignments may be adjusted based on seasonal and/or semesterly time commitments and needs.

It is anticipated that the individual selected for this position will start in April or May of 2024.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate efforts with Grand County Economic Development
  • Share knowledge of capital acquisition and technology development.
  • Provide consulting resources for all areas such as, but not limited to, financial, operational, markets, personnel, marketing, registration, and productivity.
  • Coordinate functions which support, enhance, guide, educate, align, or otherwise assist business owners and employees.
  • Assist the Moab Campus with regional advisory committees and industry advisory groups, as well as other business or training related assignments.
  • Provide accurate record keeping, data entry, reconciling, organization and reporting as assigned.
  • Along with the Associate Department Head/supervisor, coordinate with business outreach programs as they relate to and/or incorporate support programs that may include but are not limited to Governors Office of Economic Opportunity (GOEO), Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Wildcat Fund, Custom Fit (CF), Workforce
  • Services, and Short Term Intensive Training (STIT) programs.
  • Align with USU and/or other training partners to meet business needs.
  • Coordinate grant writing and grant reporting to support programmatic efforts.
  • Supervise interns, volunteers or office staff as needed.
  • Coordinate marketing and outreach of the business resource center.
  • Compile program outcomes, projections, and trends.
  • Other duties as assigned.

If the successful candidate desires and is qualified to do so, and if there is need by the department, additional workload (up to 25% total time) may include the following responsibilities:
  • Teach business or business-related courses.
  • Develop curriculum for business or business-related courses.


Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
  • An associate degree plus five years of related work experience, a bachelor's degree in a related field plus three years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.
  • Excellent effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Data Base, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software and other related computer programs.

Preferred requirements:
  • Business ownership or management experience.
  • Experience with the banking industry as it relates to business development and management.
  • Marketing experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to present.
