Overview
The Department of History at Utah State University (USU) invites applications for a Temporary Assistant Professor of Modern European History with an emphasis in the 20th century and any region. This is a one-year term appointment, renewable for a second year, depending on performance and availability of funds. The faculty member will be responsible for teaching six courses per year, including the second half of the European History survey (HIST 1110), as well as a selection of our existing upper division courses, as appropriate to the candidate's area of specialization and departmental needs. The anticipated start date of the position is August 2024. This position is located at USU's main campus in Logan, and is not eligible for remote work.


Responsibilities
  • Teach the second half of the European History survey (HIST 1110 - "European History from 1500")
  • Teach existing upper-division courses, as appropriate to the candidates area of specialization and department needs. Possibilities include courses on the two world wars, imperialism, sport, and nationalism. Please consult the USU for available course options
  • Conduct research in field of specialization
  • Participate in departmental activities as appropriate


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A PhD in European History or related field by August 2024 (ABD will be considered at time of application if degree will be awarded by 1 August 2024)
  • Evidence of teaching excellence
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Specialization in 20th century European History
  • Ability to contribute to other units in the History Department, including the Global Peacebuilding Certificate, Public History, the Classics Program, or the Religious Studies Program.
