We are currently looking for a Thin-Film Equipment Engineer to support our Salt Lake City, Utah facility.

Varex Imaging Thin-Film Equipment Engineer is responsible for designing, specifying, and supporting the day-to-day thin film manufacturing equipment; using PVD and E-beam techniques. This includes, but is not limited to, providing technical support to ensure equipment uptime, develop and implement practices or methodologies which reduce cost and improve operational efficiency. Modifying equipment, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions will be a main part of the job. Must be open to working in an environment that has hazardous chemicals, and strict cleanroom PPE adhered to.

Job Description

Varex Imaging Thin-Film Equipment Engineer is responsible for designing, specifying, and supporting day-to-day thin film manufacturing equipment using PVD and E-beam techniques, including providing technical support to ensure equipment uptime, process reliability; developing and implementing practices or methodologies which reduce cost and improve operational efficiency; conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective action; and improving production yields via tool manufacturability optimization.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Monitors, sustains, and supports day-to-day thin film manufacturing equipment, programs, and activities for Cesium Iodide: Thallium Iodide scintillator deposition using various PVD tools and Aluminum deposition using EBPVD
  • Ensure equipment uptime by providing technical support to operators, technicians, and other engineers
  • Hands on experience performing preventative maintenance and emergency tool repairs.
  • Develops and implements practices or methodologies which lower cost, reduce cycle time, and improve operational efficiency
  • Conducts root cause analysis and implements corrective action if required on equipment
  • Oversees the installation, modification, upgrade and maintenance of manufacturing equipment.
  • Studies equipment performance and reliability. Establishes programs and solutions for increasing uptime, and for equipment problems that affect the manufacturing process.
  • Provides technical support to the manufacturing equipment repair and process engineering organizations. Defines and writes preventative maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Maintains current records on equipment manufacturers' technical notices, upgrades and safety issues.
  • Responds to inquiries from other team members, managers, or departments
  • Adheres to all safety policies and procedures as required (strict PPE requirements)
  • Must be comfortable working in a clean room environment for 50% of the time
  • Support quality programs, both sustaining, as well as in preparation for major audits or certifications.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of hands on experience working in Optical thin film fabrication or semiconductor industry in equipment engineering role
  • 10+ years of experience on PVD/EBPVD, Metrology, and other thin film deposition equipment
  • 10+ years of experience with automated vacuum control systems from vendors (such as Balzers, Leybold, DynaVac, SCS and Vacuum Process Technologies)

Preferred Qualifications and Requirements

  • Cesium Iodide: Thallium Iodide scintillator experience.
  • High Vacuum System experience must.
