Position Announcement

The Department of Design at Utah Tech University (UT) in St. George, Utah, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor, with a specialization in User Interface (UI) and Digital Design, starting Fall Semester of 2024. Responsibilities

  • Teach 24 credit hours of lower and/or upper division undergraduate Design courses per academic year.
  • Teach outreach courses and provide leadership for outreach courses, including Design School.
  • Work with Department Chair, Dean, and other faculty in the Design department regarding curriculum and program development.
  • Assist in hiring, mentoring, supervising, and assisting adjunct instructors.
  • Perform defined campus-wide duties, including holding office hours, attendance at department and division meetings, service on committees, outreach programs, and other responsibilities as defined by University Policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • MFA in Design or related field preferred. Candidates with a BFA/B.S. in Design or closely related field will be considered for appointment to Acting Assistant Professor status, with the expectation that they would earn an MFA within two (2) years of hire.
  • Demonstrated abilities and employment experience in Design and Design Thinking.
  • Successful teaching experience at the college or university level, ideally with experience using active learning models of instruction, required.
  • Extensive knowledge of design principles and proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Cloud applications, prototyping, usability, and motion graphics.
  • Five (5) years of experience in the design industry preferred; a professional portfolio of current work will be required.
  • Ability to develop innovative curriculum and appropriate course content and teach under a variety of teaching situations including day, night, weekend, and online courses.
  • Demonstrated ability with the tools and techniques required to innovate and solve design project challenges creatively.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, training skills, and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with other faculty, staff, and students and contribute to a "team" concept.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with students, staff, and colleagues orally and in writing.
Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2024, with pay and benefits starting July 1, 2024. Annual salary of $58,000+ depending on qualifications & experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
